Art therapy for vulnerable youth - Arty, an Erasmus Project

On 5 May 2023, Romanian Institute for Human Rights participated in the Erasmus Project Conference – Arty – an approach to therapy through art for vulnerable youth with mental health issues.

The main objective of the project was to develop socio-educational tools for art therapy aimed at youth dealing with depression and mental health issues.

The conference presented the steps taken in developing the guide on the role of art therapy, which will encompass practical strategies to ensure the mental well-being of young individuals. Considering that art and creativity can play a significant role in treating psychological conditions and even have genuine healing potential, the guide’s authors provide a set of awareness tools regarding the impact the pandemic had on the youth. The guide will serve as an effective working tool for organisations operating in this field and all stakeholders involved.

The Institute emphasizes that therapy activities, as well as psychological counselling, must consider the best interests of the child, and through this innovative project the importance of art therapy was taken into account, also considering the promotion and respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
