The ”Child Safety in a Family Environment” Conference
On 25 May 2023 the Romanian Institute for Human Rights participated in the Conference ”Child Safety in a Family Environment” organised by the organisation Consiliul Tinerilor Instituționalizați - Bucharest Branch, the Ministry of Family, Youth and Equal Opportunities, and the Roma Party ”Pro Europa”. The conference aimed to discuss the draft law regarding the organization of activities for preventing the separation of children from their families (Pl-x 145/2023).
The debates focused on presenting the draft law and countering the misinformation that the provisions of the normative text would lead to the separation of children from parents. Thus, it was shown that the proposed measures aim to support families where there is a risk of family separation, by creating a service plan that includes elements such as: services addressing the child’s needs, services and activities intended for parents, such as information, counselling in the field of education, employment, and facilitation of existing social assistance benefits. Additionally, the text of the normative act provides for the establishment of the National Child Observatory, which is an online database that will contain data regarding the registration of children in situations of risk. At the same time, the draft law provides financing methods for day centres aimed at preventing the separation of the child from the family.
