ENNHRI Working Group on older persons
On February 1st, 2023, Romanian Institute for Human Rights participated in the ENNHRI Working Group on older persons. The main theme revolved around supporting a convention on the rights of older persons. Discussions on this topic have been ongoing for several years within the UN’s Open-ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWGA), which was established on 21 December 2010. However, a consensus in this area has not been reached so far.
This year, from 3 to 6 April, the 13th session of the Open-ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWGA) will take place, in which national human rights institutions will also participate to express their support for the adoption of such a convention. In this context, the Romanian Institute for Human Rights has expressed its support for a convention on the rights of older persons.
