May 20-25, Young Ambassadors Forum 2019
The Young Ambassadors’ Forum was hosted in Bucharest by Muşat & Asociaţii during the week 20-25 May 2019. This is a project under the aegis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Affairs community of the Volunteer Association for Ideas and Projects. This year's theme was „Defending and being defended in the 21st century: freedom as the supremacy of human rights”, and over the course of 6 days, young students - future diplomats and international relations experts - debated developments current geopolitics, the issue of humanitarian law and the importance of human rights promotion.
The Forum brought together participants from Romania, Germany, Albania, France, the United Kingdom and the US who met with ambassadors, activists and professionals in the field of international law, representatives of UNHCR Romania, the International Organization for Migration and of other institutions.
Within this forum, the Romanian Institute for Human Rights (RIHR) was invited to sustain and mediate a workshop on the role of international humanitarian law in a contemporary context. Issues have been debated on the evolution of international humanitarian law in the context of new types of conflict in today's world. Starting from the proposed theme and from the poster of the event „The world today gives us a picture, how do we look at the future beyond this?” the RIHR representative initiated a dialogue on the role of human rights defenders and human rights institutions.
The dynamic format of the Forum allowed the 40 students to engage in interactive debates, challenging deeply rooted global issues as well as the inability of existing world decision-making structures to solve or mitigate the problems of the contemporary world.
