World Health Day
On 16 April, the RIHR organized a „Health for All” educational program on the occasion of the World Health Day at the „Radu Stanian” Secondary School in Ploieşti.
From the presentation by the RIHR the students learned more about the right to health as a fundamental right of any human being, regardless of race, religion, political opinion, economic or social situation, and of how in order to enjoy this right, a certain lifestyle must be respected. A healthy living, involves hygiene, proper nutrition, sports and many more. An interactive workshop followed during which the children asked questions and received answers on the importance of this right.
The theme proposed by the World Health Organization this year was "Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere", aiming to ensure that all people have access to health promotion services, disease prevention, curative, rehabilitation and palliative care of sufficient quality to be effective while maintaining the lowest financial burden on the population as a result of accessing these services.
According to WHO data, about half of the world's population has no access to essential health services. Also, approximately 800 million people (12% of the world's population) pay at least 10% of the household's income for the health services they receive, and 100 million people are pushed into „extreme poverty” (living at $ 1.90 or less daily) as a result of spending on health services.
