International Humanitarian Law Day

The International Humanitarian Law Day is celebrated annually, as established by Law no.177 / 2013 on May 14th -, the date when in 1954 Romania became a party to the Geneva Conventions. This year it also marks the 70th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions.

The event organized by the „Nicolae Iorga” County Library Ploieşti, the Humanitarian Law Association - Prahova Branch and the National College „Jean Monnet”, Ploieşti took place at the „Marea Unire” (Great Union)  Room of the Palace of Culture, Ploiesti. The book „International Humanitarian Law. Seven decades in the service of humankind”, Editor Dumitru Codiţă, was launched. On this occasion took place the award ceremony of the winners of the interdisciplinary contest in socio-human sciences with the theme „Children - the standard of present and future humanity in securing peace in the world”; the opening of the exhibition; the catalog launch; the awarding ceremony for the winners of the painting contest „Protecting Life! Children say NO to war”, as well as the opening of the book exhibition: „Presentation of the ARDU-PH Book Collection”.

On this occasion was adopted the Ploieşti Calling - on the knowledge and observance of International Humanitarian Law legal instruments.

Representatives of the Romanian Parliament, the Prahova County Prefect Institution, the Ploiești City Hall, the Romanian Institute for Human Rights, the Prahova School Inspectorate, as well as other educational and cultural institutions participated in the event.
